Bead Making Experiment July 18 2009

« large pic »
Above the chimney temperatures reacha point more than warm enough to shape beads or create decorative structures like this reticella. This is created by placing two rods side by side in the flame. When the end begins to slump it can be grabbed with tweezers and twisted. If it is pulled at the same time the rod will get smaller as it stretches allowing for finer decorative elements. Archaeological evidence exists for small pieces of reticella with tweezer marks in a blob of glass at one end.
