Bead Making Experiment July 18 2009

« large pic »
Here Rob is using a flat piece of soapstone to work two different colours of tesserae into a more conforming shape. Although this can be done with patience in the chimney or furnace by heating the glass and letting gravity and rotation shape the bead, the temporary nature of a charcoal fire lends itself to a more direct approach. It is also possible to push the material around using a marver to speed up the process at the risk of introducing folds into the glass.
